Opera Australia 2011/12 Series of Australia Opera presents Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Don Giovanni Venue: Screening at the Chapel Theatre, Glen Innes NSW

Screening 3pm Sunday - Tickets $24 at the door. Duration: 2hours 40 minutes with one intermission. Please feel free to bring refreshments to share with your friends. BYO food and drinks for the intermission.

Reviving this swashbuckling performance, brandishing a sword, and clad in leathers and thigh-high boots, Teddy Tahu Rhodes's show-stopping entrance in Don Giovanni is legendary. Don Giovanni is a shameless womaniser. He loves the thrill of the chase but his deeds are beginning to catch up with him. He can outrun a jilted lover and dodge a jealous admirer, but a figure from beyond the grave? That might stop him in his tracks.

Many singers have played the title role in this production, but none have inhabited it quite as memorably as Teddy Tahu Rhodes. New Zealand-born Tahu Rhodes has come a long way from his Christchurch upbringing. His 1998 debut with Opera Australia led to a string of principal roles from Don Giovanni to Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire. He also hit the headlines in January 2010 when he stepped into the role of Escamillo in the Metropolitan Opera Live in HD telecast of Carmen at just three hours' notice.

He leads a handsome cast of some of Opera Australia's finest singers. Rachelle Durkin as Donna Anna, Taryn Fiebig as Zerlina and Jacqueline Dark as Donna Elvira are the women who fall prey to Don Giovanni's advances.

While to round up the extraordinary cast, Henry Choo plays Don Ottavio, Andrew Jones is Masetto, Daniel Sumegi is The Commendatore, and great character actor and singer Conal Coad returns to play Don Giovanni's long-suffering servant Leporello to accompany us through the Don's last hours.

In the pit, Opera Australia welcomes back distinguished British conductor Mark Wigglesworth, to conduct Mozart's breathtaking score

The Australian Celtic Festival in Glen Innes, Nothern NSW is unique for its colour, spectacle and range of entertainment and history.  An opportunity to meet with friends and experience our country hospitality. The 2012 Australian Celtic Festival will honour the Celtic Nations of Brittany & Galicia; acknowledging Asturias. The festival’s main venue is the Australian Standing Stones, an array of spectacular granite monoliths like those around which the ancient Celts danced. To be there at dawn to listen to the eerie skirl of pipes in the autumn mists at the Standing Stones is an experience not to be missed.  The four day festival provides non stop entertainment including the street parade, spectacular ceremonial roles performed by re-enactment groups, Celtic Strongman events, kirking of the Tartan, massed bands, children’s entertainment, dancing, flag raising ceremonies, poets’ breakfast, yard dog trials, market stalls, fun run and Celtic foods.  The festival in 2012 will again draw clans, national groups, dancers and artists from across Australia and overseas.  You can partake in Celtic music and dance at one of the four stages at the Standing Stones or in one of the many concert venues in the town of Glen Innes.  This year performers include:  Highlander, Leaping Lizzards, Wheelers & Dealers, Pumpkin Juice, Pete Miller, and Mic Travers.  The 2012 Festival's Dance Spectacular will feature Britton & Gallician dancers.  For the full program, visit the Festival website.

The 8th New England Regional Wine Show. The New England area is unlike any other grape growing region in Australia. This is due the regions diversity from high altitude (with a good number of vineyards above 1,000m), cool climate vineyards along the spine of the Great Dividing Range to the lower and warmer sites on the western edges of the New England Tablelands.Additionally, winemakers from adjacent viticultural areas were also invited to exhibit at the New England Regional Wine Show. These adjacent areas are Hastings, Namoi Valley, Northern Slopes outside New England, Western Plains, Granite Belt and the Tamworth area. Every year The New England Regional Wine Show invites all vignerons & winemakers making wines using grapes from these areas to exhibit at the New England Regional Wine Show. This will be a great opportunity to see the high standard of the local wines and compare them to wines from the other invited regions.Information on The New England Regional Wine Show 2012 will be posted as it comes to hand.
